Seed Geraniums Pinto are prized for their compact growth habit and resilience, making them ideal for creating stunning floral arrangements or enhancing your landscape. With their fast-growing nature, you can expect beautiful blooms all season long. Available in 4.5-inch pots, these geraniums are ready to be planted directly into your garden or containers, providing a cost-effective and eco-friendly solution for achieving a colorful garden display.

Planting

  1. Choose the Right Spot: Select a sunny location with at least 4–6 hours of direct sunlight each day. Geraniums thrive in full sun, which promotes robust growth and vibrant blooms.
  2. Prepare the Soil: Ensure well-drained soil. If planting in containers, use a high-quality, well-draining potting mix. For garden beds, amend the soil with compost to improve drainage and fertility.
  3. Planting Depth: When planting Seeded Geraniums Pinto in the ground or larger containers, dig a hole just deep enough to cover the root ball. Plant at the same depth as it was in the pot.
  4. Spacing: Space plants 8–12 inches apart to allow for adequate airflow and growth.

Watering

  1. Regular Watering: Water your Seeded Geraniums Pinto deeply, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Be careful not to overwater, as geraniums don’t like wet feet. Ensure the container has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
  2. Adjust for Season: In the warmer months, you may need to water more frequently, especially in containers, as they dry out faster. In cooler months, reduce watering as the plant’s growth slows down.

Fertilizing

  1. Balanced Fertilizer: Feed your geraniums monthly during the growing season with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer (e.g., 20-20-20) to support strong growth and abundant blooms.
  2. Avoid Over-Fertilizing: Too much fertilizer can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of flowers. Use a fertilizer with lower phosphorus to prevent stretching.

Pruning and Deadheading

  1. Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming. Cut back any wilted flowers with clean, sharp scissors to prevent seed production and promote more blooms.
  2. Pruning: If your geraniums become leggy or overgrown, trim back the stems in late spring or early summer. This helps maintain a compact shape and encourages bushier growth.

Pests and Diseases

  1. Pests: Watch for aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. If you notice pests, treat your plants with insecticidal soap or a mild solution of neem oil.
  2. Fungal Diseases: Geraniums are generally resistant to most diseases, but they can be susceptible to powdery mildew in humid conditions. Ensure proper air circulation and avoid overhead watering to reduce the risk of fungal problems.

Winter Care

  1. Cold Sensitivity: Geraniums are sensitive to frost. If you’re growing them outdoors in a cooler climate, bring them indoors before the first frost. Alternatively, you can grow them as annuals and replace them each year.
  2. Indoor Care: If kept indoors during winter, place them near a sunny window and reduce watering to prevent root rot. Geraniums may go dormant in cooler temperatures, but they should bloom again once temperatures warm up.
